Linda Kaplan Jewelry Collection

Linda Kaplan, author of “Copper Art Jewelry: A Different Lustre,” collected Francisco “Frank” Rebajes (1907-1990) unique copper jewelry. Rebajes was from the Dominican Republic but immigrated to New York City in 1923. The self-taught metalsmith began his career by using plumber’s tools to shape scans and scrap metal into animal sculptures. His artistry was discovered by the director of the Whitney Museum, and his career flourished soon after. He participated in exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the 1939 World’s Fair.  In 2017, Kohler Foundation acquired 238 jewelry pieces and gifted the collection to Ripon College. While the collection will be exhibited it will also be will be integrated in the art curriculum.
