Kohler Foundation Announces 2018 Gingerbread Winners

      

KOHLER, Wis. – January 11, 2019 – The winners of the 22nd annual Waelderhaus Gingerbread Festival competition have been announced by Kohler Foundation. Throughout the month of December, the Waelderhaus was host to a delicious collection of houses, stables, churches, and Christmas villages.  Cash prizes, based on votes tallied from a record 9,400 visitors, are being awarded in six categories. The overall highest vote-getter of the festival was the creative and detailed depiction of “Acuity Insurance” by Mrs. Brown’s Sheboygan County Christian High School class.

 

The first-place winners in each category were awarded $500.  They include:
Pre-school:  St. John Lutheran School, Plymouth (Ms. Christian’s 4K class) “What Do Snowmen Do at Night”
Grades K-2: Kohler Public School (Mrs. DeAmico’s 1st grade class) “A Who-Ville Christmas”
Grades 3-5:  Sheboygan Falls Elementary (Mrs.Fiorini’s  5th grade Art Enrichment) “Snowstorm Valley”
Grades 6-8:  Sheboygan Falls Middle School  (Mrs.Fiorini’s Art Enrichment) “Polar Express”
Grades 9-12: Sheboygan County Christian High School (Ms. Brown’s class) “Acuity Insurance”
Community Groups: RCS Empowers (Ms. Morse’s Action & Day Service Class) “Bye Bye Birdie”

Second-place winners earned a $250 cash prize.  They include:

Pre-school:  JMKAC/SASD (Keely Phippen’s preschool class) “Treehouse”
Grades K-2: Lake Country Academy (Ms. Grunewald’s kindergarten) “The Three Little Pigs” 
Grades 3-5: Bethlehem Lutheran School  (Ms. Vanic’s 3rd grade class) “O Little Town of Bethlehem”
Grades 6-8: Horace Mann Middle School (Ms. Madgwick’s class) “Nightmare Before Christmas”
Grades 9-12: Random Lake High School (Ms. MacDonald’s RLHS Art Club) “Mid Century Modern”
Community Groups: Hub City 4H Club (Connie LeClair, Advisor) “The Grinch in Whoville”

Third place honorees and recipients of a $100 award are:
Pre-school:  Kohler Public School (Ms. Wittwer’s Junior Kindergarten) “Santa Paws Patrol”
Grades K-2: New Montessori School (Ms Hointink’s 1st & 2nd grade) “Candy Concert”
Grades 3-5:  Sheboygan Falls Elementary (Mrs.Fiorini’s Art Enrichment) “Chilling After Christmas”
Grades 6-8:   Sheboygan Falls Elementary (Mrs.Fiorini’s Art Enrichment) “Snowman’s Cabin”
Grades 9-12: Cedar Grove-Belgium High School (Ms. Urness’s World Food Class) “The Up House”
Community Groups: Plymouth AFS Students (Diane Gafney, Advisor) “Around the World with AFS”
