Katelyn Gruell and Anne Van Deusen Performing at the Waelderhaus

KOHLER, WI – May 10, 2017 – Katelyn Gruell will perform at the Waelderhaus, the historic “house in the woods,” which overlooks the Sheboygan River in Kohler.  She will be accompanied by Anne Van Deusen. The event is at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 21.  Reservations are encouraged, due to limited capacity, but no tickets are necessary.  Call Kohler Foundation at 920-458-1972 to reserve your seat, or email kohlerfoundation@kohler.com. 

Katie Gruell is a sophomore at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts where she is working towards a BA in Voice with a Theatre Minor and studying with Dr. Tanya Kruse. Katie was the first student from Cedar Grove-Belgium High School to receive the Ruth DeYoung Kohler Scholarship for Artistic Excellence in 2015. In 2016, Katie covered the lead role of Dido in UWM Opera Theatre’s production of Dido & Æneas. In the fall of 2016, Katie won both the Classical and Musical Theatre categories in the Wisconsin NATS competition; she was also a finalist in the Schmidt Vocal Competition in Chicago. This year, Katie played the role of of Rosina from Rossini’s Barber of Seville in UWM Opera Theatre’s Opera Scenes production, and portrayed the role of Ninetta in UWM Opera Theatre’s production of Offenbach's La Périchole.

Anne Van Deusen is a pianist, accompanist and music director in and around the Milwaukee area. Her work with local theatres and schools includes: Skylight Music Theatre, Milwaukee Opera Theatre, Florentine Opera, Milwaukee Ballet, First Stage, In Tandem, Off the Wall, Waukesha Civic, UW-Milwaukee, and a variety of school districts. Her music-directing and accompanying credits include: Violet, Sweeney Todd, Powder Her Face, Sunday in the Park with George, Elmer Gantry (2012 Grammy Award winner); Into the Woods,  You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Girl in the Frame and Three Postcards.  This summer she’ll be music-directing Mary Poppins at DSHA Community Theatre Works. Outside the theatre world, Anne does vocal coaching and is the Director of Music at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church in Greendale.

The Waelderhaus is managed by Kohler Foundation, Inc., and offers an array of unique cultural events throughout the year.  It is located at 1100 Riverside Dr., Kohler, and is open daily (except holidays) to the public for guided tours at 2: 00PM, 3:00PM and 4:00PM, free of charge.
