Robert Swain

A collection of twelve paintings by American artist Robert Swain (b. 1940) were commissioned by BMO Financial in Chicago for their corporate offices. Painted in September 1974, the twelve canvases (Acrylic on canvas) each measure 28” x 28” and were studies for “Study 7’ X 7’”. The canvases consist of seven vertical and horizontal squares, each the same size. Each grid is meticulously painted in hues that become stronger from left to right. Conservation was completed by Parma Conservation of Chicago and included cleaning and modest in-painting. BMO Financial generously gifted the paintings to Kohler Foundation. After conservation, they were gifted to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
