Alexander Calder

“Swirl”

Created from a design by Alexander Calder (American, 1898-1976), only a limited number of these tapestry pieces were created. Woven of maguey fiber, it is initialed and dated, “CA 74” and measures 73” by 49 ½”. Part of a larger gift to Kohler Foundation of textiles from BMO Financial’s corporate collection, the Calder piece has been cleaned, documented, and gifted to the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts.
