The halls will be ringing with sounds of beautiful music. In addition to the annual Gingerbread Festival musical events, two concerts will be held at the Waelderhaus in 2013 (1100 W. Riverside Dr., Kohler). On Saturday, April 13, Johanna Shilling will perform with special guests Paul Thompson, director of the Lakeshore Chorale, and the UWM Institute of Chamber Music Trio. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm, and will feature solo and group performances by Ms. Schilling and her classical colleagues. Then, on Tuesday, June 11, the Florentine Opera Company will perform “Opera’s Greatest Hits” at 7:00 pm. Both concerts are open to the public, though reservations are encouraged, due to limited seating at the Waelderhaus. Reservations can be made by calling 920-458-1972 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Admission is free, although a suggested donation of $5 is requested at the door to help defray costs of the event and support future concerts.
The 2012-13 season of the Distinguished Guest Series wraps up on April 27 with five-time Grammy Award-winning vocalist and songwriter, Michael McDonald. McDonald began his career as a backup singer for Steely Dan. As a member of The Doobie Brothers from 1976 to 1982, he recorded hit songs like “Real Love” and “Little Darling.” In 1980, “What a Fool Believes” earned him a Grammy Award for Song of the Year along with co-writer Kenny Loggins. Shunning theatrics and trend-chasing, he has trusted in the power of his singular voice and a deep catalog of memorable songs to point the way through his long career. Tickets are on sale now.
