Distinguished Guest Series

Songs, Strings, and Stars

In 1944, Kohler Women's Club established the Distinguished Guest Series - bringing lecturers like Admiral Richard Byrd, Pearl S. Buck, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and Hedda Hopper to the Waelderhaus in Kohler. In the 1950's, Kohler Foundation took over the tradition, and the Distinguished Guest Series evolved into a full-fledged performing arts series, featuring internationally recognized performers in theatre, dance, and music, providing world-class entertainment at accessible prices. The tradition continues today, with the biggest names and the brightest stars performing in Kohler, for the benefit of our community.  Among the many talented artists the Distinguished Guest Series has featured over the years are: Maya Angelou, the Ten Tenors, the Russian National Ballet, STOMP, Wynton Marsalis, Itzhak Perlman, Audra McDonald, Yo-Yo Ma,  and Kristin Chenoweth.

Join us at Kohler Memorial Theatre for the history-making performances of our next season.

Distinguished Guest Series 2017-18 Season

The 74th season of Kohler Foundation’s Distinguished Guest Series presents a dynamic collection of award-winning and world-renowned artists starting with a most celebrated vocalist, Renée Fleming, whose full lyric soprano voice has entertained audiences world-wide. Next, The 5 Browns, five Juilliard-trained siblings, grace the stage with five Steinway concert grand pianos, followed by the final performance of the season which will bring Leslie Odom, Jr., known to audiences for his award-winning portrayal of “Aaron Burr” in Hamilton on Broadway. It’s a season not to be missed!

Renée Fleming ~ Saturday, November 18

Renée Fleming is one of the most acclaimed singers of our time. In 2013, she was awarded America’s highest honor for an artist, the National Medal of the Arts. She brought her voice to a vast new audience in 2014 as the first classical artist ever to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl. Winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Solo, Renée Fleming has sung for momentous occasions from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony to the Diamond Jubilee Concert for Queen Elizabeth II.

The 5 Browns ~ Friday, February 9

Ryan, Melody, Gregory, Deondra, and Desirae were the first family of five siblings ever accepted simultaneously to New York’s Juilliard School. They perform individually or in combinations from duo to complex five-piano arrangements. Back by popular demand, The 5 Browns sold out at their last Kohler performance. The quintet has been in the spotlight since 2002 when People Magazine dubbed them the “Fab Five,” and they were featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show and 60 Minutes. Each of their three CDs reached #1 on Billboard magazine’s classical album chart. This is an entertaining show for all ages!

Leslie Odom, Jr. ~ Friday, March 9

Leslie Odom, Jr. is the recipient of both the Tony and Grammy Awards for his leading role as “Aaron Burr” in the blockbuster Broadway musical Hamilton and as the principal soloist on the original Broadway cast recording.  He originated the role of “Burr” in a sold-out run at The Public Theatre in 2015, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical and a Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical. After making his Broadway debut at the age of 17 in Rent, Odom, Jr. headed to Carnegie Mellon University’s prestigious School of Drama. Kohler Foundation is delighted to host a performer of this caliber at the Kohler Memorial Theatre.
