Distinguished Guest Series

75 Years of Giving Voice to the Arts

2018-19 DGS SEASON

This fall, the Distinguished Guest Series marks 75 years of giving voice to musicians, poets, actors, and dancers.  Kohler Foundation is proud to announce the 2018-19 line up of performers, recognized for the unique perspective they bring to their craft and noteworthy careers they have led.

The Distinguished Guest Series will open with accomplished actress and singer, Katharine McPhee, who is fresh off her Broadway debut in the hit musical Waitress.  Next, a multi-talented collective, Postmodern Jukebox reimagines contemporary pop, rock and R&B hits in the styles of various yesteryears, from swing to doo-wop, ragtime to Motown.  The final performance of the season features Wynonna Judd and her band The Big Noise.

Katharine McPhee ~ Saturday, November 3, 2018

Katharine McPhee, an accomplished actress and singer, first burst onto the scene during a storied run on Season 5 of American Idol.  She is well-known to television audiences for starring roles in the CBS drama series Scorpion and the NBC musical drama Smash.  She is renowned for her powerhouse presence and show-stopping performances.  In 2006 her first single, Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny, debuted at #2 on Billboard's Hot Singles Sales chart.  Propelled by the gold-certified single, Over It, her 2007 self-titled album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200.  In 2010 McPhee returned with two albums - Unbroken and Christmas is the Time to Say I love You - and in 2015 garnered fan praise for Hysteria.  McPhee reimagined a host of timeless jazz standards on her 2017 album I Fall In Love Too Easily.  In the spring of 2018, McPhee made her Broadway debut starring as Jenna in the hit musical Waitress, featuring music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles.

Postmodern Jukebox ~ Saturday, February 9, 2019

A multi-talented collective, Postmodern Jukebox reimagines contemporary pop, rock and R&B hits in the style of various yesteryears, from swing to doo-wop, ragtime to Motown, or as Scott Bradlee, founder of the collective puts it, "pop music in a time machine."  Originally a YouTube phenomenon, it's onstage where the project has really come to shine, playing hundreds of shows to sold-out houses across the globe, from intimate standing-room only gigs to large-scale, theatrical extravaganzas.  Since 2009, Postmodern Jukebox has amassed more than 925 million YouTube views and 3.2 million subscribers, chalked up more than 1.3 million likes on Facebook, performed on Good Morning America, topped iTunes and Billboard charts, caught the attention of NPR Music and NBC News, and played hundreds of shows to sold-out houses around the world.

Wynonna & The Big Noise ~ Saturday, March 9, 2019

Respected by the millions of fans who are drawn to her music and undeniable talent, Wynonna Judd's rich and commanding voice has sold over 30 million albums worldwide spanning her remarkable 34-year career.  As one-half of the legendary mother/daughter duo The Judds, she was once dubbed by Rolling Stone as "the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline."  This iconic performer has received over 60 industry awards, with countless charting singles, including 20 #1 hits such as Mama He's Crazy, Why Not Me, and Grandpa, (Tell Me 'Bout The Good Ole Days).  Judd and her band The Big Noise, led by her husband/drummer/producer, Cactus Moser, released their debut full-length album in February 2016 to critical acclaim.  She has described the new sound as "vintage, yet modern" and a "return to the well."  It's a rootsy work encompassing country, Americana, blues, soul and rock.
