While self-taught artist Nick Engelbert spent most of his life creating sculptures (see Grandview site), he turned to oil painting late in life at age 70. Within the next ten years, he finished approximately 74 paintings of his Grandview scultpure environment, the exotic places he visited, and the humor and essence of everyday life. His last work of art was a mural he painted inside his farmhouse.
The Engelbert family donated 74 painting to Kohler Foundation, Inc., which in turn donated the collection to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
