Nearly 25 years ago, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center showed the pen and ink drawings of then 88-year old self-taught Wisconsin artist Norman Pettingill. The drawings offer a humorous view of life in the Northwood’s, drawn from the artist’s own memories. Pettingill spent three decades creating hundreds of pen and ink drawings and marketed many of them as postcards. A small collection of original drawings, postcards, correspondence, audio tapes, and a large "fish-creature" painting have recently come to Kohler Foundation. These items are being documented and are undergoing conservation treatment. When completed, they will add to the already significant Pettingill collection at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
