Jacob Baker

Jacob Baker (b. c. 1867, d. c. 1950-1953) created a cross-gabled house and possibly other sculptures in Elizabeth, IL in the 1920s and 1930s. He appears to have been influenced by the nearby Dickeyville Grotto as he embellished the piece with knick-knacks, collectibles, radio tubes, and the like. It is an extraordinary piece that captures the imagination of all who see it. The house spent nearly 15 years in the garden of preservationist Lisa Stone and her husband Don Howlett. It has been fully conserved and gifted to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
